These are the first audiobooks ever sold in Starbucks stores. The two audiobooks will be sold exclusively at Starbucks' company-owned U.S. stores for four months before being available at other retailers. (Bloomberg News)

are you serious? i havn't sold ONE of my dot or dash mugs, let alone those crapass books that people prolly just pickup and take cuz they look like they should be free.

A pretty smart first move in the audiobook space. Just about all very young children possess an insatiable capacity for listening to stories. Unfortunately many parents and caretakers cannot keep up with this need--for whatever reasons good or lame. So this product will ease parental guilt and improve their kid's brains.
The audiobook market is just starting to blossom and this is the gateway for many consumers to even consider purchasing a title. When their download stations start appearing, the audiobook offerings will be quite popular--my iPod contains several kids' titles for long trips, not to mention novels for my commute.

This may seem unrelated to audiobooks, but as an employee of a map publisher, I've often wondered if there's a demand for travel info at Starbucks locations. Do the baristas out there see folks coming in from out of town frequently enough to feel that maps would be a helpful addition to the selection on sale?

Actually, our store has only been open for a little over a month. We're on a frontage road paralleling the Interstate 60. We regularly get customers who are traveling and ask for directions. However, for the most part, the baristas are able to answer their question. Most of the time, they are very close to their destination anyway since out here in California, everything is only 20 minutes from L.A. LOL
