Seattle-based reporter Melissa Allison has a round-up of Starbucks items, including news that the company paid $225,000 to settle a case in which it was accused of failing to refund gift card balances under $10. Read "Starbucks settles allegations for $225,000"
This old news I dropped this last night but it's good to see you catching up :) Have a great day everyone!

Yes Bugg-ING all this news has been twittered about for a full day. Our webmaster just needs to follow more people on twitter. ;) ;) I'm looking forward to a new Juan Valdez column soon.
Goodbye my lovely Sorbetto. You were delicious but quite true that you didn't fit in Starbucks for a whole number of reasons! Can we just get ONE Sorbetto machine maybe at 1st & Pike? Please dear Starbucks? :-) ;-)

Article also states that Starbucks lobbied health care, and environmental issues. If this health care bill HR3200 passes I'd be shocked if Starbucks didn't drop all health insurance and force partners go to the government option (even though Obama keeps saying "you'll get to keep your health care...which is not true). The way the bill is written a corporation would only have to pay an 8% "tax" to the government if they don't provide health coverage for their employees. And I'm sure that 8% is a much smaller part of the pie than what they are paying now. And if you don't believe me "READ THE BILL".(http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h3200/text)
And I know that Starbucks supported the cap & trade (cap & tax) bill since a congressman actually said that on the house floor when the bill was being discussed. This is disappointing to me as a partner. I'm totally for helping the environment but that cap & tax bill will not help the economy, nor will it create more jobs. It will line the pockets of those in power.

"It cut 16 workers at its South Carolina roasting plant..."
I wonder how many people work at that roasting plant? What percentage of the total is 16? And if 16 jobs are cut does that mean they are now roasting less coffee? Or does it mean the others will have to work harder to make up the difference?
Speaking of "roasting," right now I have some Sumatra beans from an indy that were roasted just a few days ago. Really, everyone who buys sbux beans should give themselves a chance to brew and taste coffee that was roasted a few days prior. Unless you've tried fresh-roasted, you don't know what you're missing. If sbux brews Sumatra again (in the afternoon), I'll probably stop by more often, because they are more convenient than the indy. But if I ever BUY sbux beans again, please, somebody shoot me.
Re "The coffee chain has abandoned Sorbetto", it's possible that something like Pinkberry (the inspiration to the sorbetto) is somewhere in my city, but I haven't seen/heard of it anywhere. Out of curiosity I just googled "pinkberry" and found this interesting blog entry. A Frozen Yogurt Recipe to Rival Pinkberry (Now, I just wonder if I can find an end-of-summer bargain sale on an ice cream maker?)
Also interesting is Wikipedia's Pinkberry entry which mentioned that Pinkberry started serving coffee flavored dessert in January 2008. Of course I now wonder what is the source of their coffee flavor?
