For its April Fools' Day joke, Starbucks says the Plenta™ (128 fl oz) and Micra™ (2 fl oz)-sized cups arrive in Starbucks stores this Fall. Are customers pulling AFD jokes on you? Or, are you pulling jokes on them? Read "Starbucks Listens to Customer Requests for More Sizes"
Lame. Their April Fool's joke should have been something like, "We're changing our most popular product!" Oh wait...

Great joke. most who are saying it was lame believed it

I thought it was clever. But I think - "Starbucks listens to customer feedback on MSI... April Fool's!" would have been hysterical.

How about the folks who spent time and effort on this doing some REAL work?
Posted by: ncsm | April 01, 2010 at 11:21 AM
@ncsm But that's "Recommitment to the partner experience" @ work. Just another thing for customers to come in and ask that will make "employees" look foolish for not knowing about because they never got THAT memo. Howard is this what you meant when you said the "LUSTER" is back on the brand? Only a fool would have provided yet another chance to give people a reason to laugh at the company, IMO

I thought it was funny. And I'm a partner at Starbucks. All I could think was "oh God, I'm gonna have to make these things." Then I remembered the day. I'm looking forward to telling customers it was a joke. I don't see how this is harmful. I'm sure these people do REAL work all the time. Why can't they have a little fun?! I think some people just lack any sense of humor. ^ :-P

Yea....I heard the radio blurb that said starbucks has a newer big size....So instead of the TWO drinks I usually order, I tried to order the bigger drink at my non regular store...they knew nothing about it. Then at my regular store I tired to order it. They knew nothing either...I looked like a fool telling them I heard that there is a new bigger drink size...give it to me! I ended up getting nothing..not sure if I will go back and be embarrassed...Of course if I would have seen the website I would have known it was a joke....but I only got a bit of a media story...and dumb stares from the barristas.

" Only a fool would have provided yet another chance to give people a reason to laugh at the company, IMO"
Don't be silly. Lots of big companies do April Fools Pranks each year. It's good advertising that gets people talking.

Plenta =
16 shorts,
~11 talls,
8 grandes,
or ~7 ventes

Remember the "Taco Liberty Bell". It caused quite a storm when Taco Bell announced it was buying the Liberty Bell.

Darn, I was planning on buying a Plenta Vanilla Rooibos latte this afternoon. That way I'd have enough latte until sunday.

Not much if an April fool's joke but So. Cal will be out of frappuccino by Monday. Now all SMs have to have their frap meetings by Friday night. I would like to know how this happens one month before hard launch.

Melody,
I just read your blog and it was funny. I wonder if Ms. Gass would've run into the same problems as Ms. Fanny?
Posted by: BOSTON STARBUCKS REBEL | April 01, 2010 at 05:56 PM
SoCal DC out of Frappucinno supplies, so we will be launching new grappa on Monday!!
Posted by: Venti Bold | April 01, 2010 at 06:18 PM
...new frappuccinos on Monday. Sorry for spelling...
Posted by: Venti Bold | April 01, 2010 at 06:20 PM
Hey BostonStarbucksRebel thanks for the compliment on my April Fool's column. But probably Jim would rather not have comments on my blog on his site! LOL. Luckily, Ms. Gass and Ms. Fettchen have nothing in common whatsoever.
I thought the Starbucks April Fool's Day thing was funny! It was totally obvious it was a joke, and I liked the VP being named Hugh Mungis.

I read the article on Facebook this morning, while waiting for my opening partner, first thinking, man, something else, and of course, we are the last to know!! But to my defense, it was 4:30 in the morning....No one mentioned it in my store, but my opener and I had a good laugh. I am in AZ, and we are going to have to roll the new frappucinos on Tues, and none of the store managers have even gone through their training yet, and we just rolled Simphony yesterday. Gonna be another rough week next week!!

Melody,
This is an April Fools Day spot and surprised that Jim didn't have some spoof on here as well.

I heard that Starbucks really MIGHT be coming out with a larger size. Isn't it called Trenta or something like that, and it's being tested in Florida and Arizona (I guess old people like their caffeine)?

Can I get a Plenta Black Iced Tea with no water and no ice?
Posted by: Brandon | April 03, 2010 at 09:20 AM
hmm if we still had doubleshots the plenta would put us at 42 iced shots, which is two more than hospitalization. i could only imagine... "um sir i need to see some ID for that mocha, 21 and older only buddy, or its a hot chocolate for you."
i think its funny. 128 ounces? as a customer, the above (somewhere up there) poster went to two stores demanding this. if you really think you need a full gallon of caramel crackaccino or macchiatto, maybe you should reconsider your daily eating habits.
or you can be like the other ripoffs that order tea with no water no syrup no ice, double cupped and a venti ice water. ooo how clever.

shift misto: a bit on the judgmental side, don't ya think?

The italian word for an animal drinking trough is abbeveratoio. they should just starbalkanize that and be done with the whole issue.
