They need to get this guy to animate the stupid training videos we have to view on the store laptop. "As The Inventory Turns" would have been so much more entertaining.

This is hilarious!

Loved the animation! Seriously 31 ounces of liquid is about the size of your stomach. Ridiculous. I posted about the new cup size in my blog. I write about a lot of Starbucks-related issues. Check it out!
YFNB ;-)

Like I said before in another thread- I love how no one seems to notice that Coffee Bean ALREADY has a 32oz size for their iced teas. That's one ounce larger than Starbucks' and no one is complaining about them.
Also, it's not 31oz of liquid... it's 16 plus ice. And people already get Venti hot coffees (20oz), with refills (40+oz), so it's not like 31oz is that much of a shocker.
I'm down for any kind of free advertising since it brings in business, but I am SO tired of hearing asinine, uninformed snide remarks.

The whole "controversy" over this is idiotic. I don't understand why anyone is even mentioning this at all. As over it already has stated, Coffee Bean has had a 32oz drink since at least last spring (I remember seeing signs for it back then). On top of that, 7-11 and many, many other places sell drinks that are FULL of sugar and other stuff in far larger sizes. 7-11's Big Gulp starts at 20 oz and goes up to 128 oz!! IMAGINE THAT!

Some people have no idea how much the Ice in drinks actually displace. Cubed ice =/= crushed ice.
Most of the uproar comes from Sbux claiming to be a healthy place as far as food and drinks multiple times a year (Vivanno season and Winter phase 2-3) yet we are now offering drinks larger than a human stomach. Of course an unsweetened venti tea has zero calories. But the venti cup is not for zero calorie drinks only and eventually neither will the trenta. If it is profitable they will do it.
The larger vessel opens up the gateway to 2000 calorie drinks. I we were baskin robbins this would not be a problem. Just look at how many people buy skinny something with a blueberry muffin or banana loaf. They have no idea those items are a fifth of their fat and caloric intake. Most people have NO IDEA what they put into their bodies daily. We are obviously gluttonous enough that they have now invented a third size for us roly poly americans. In a real Italian shop this would be referred to an extra extra extra large.
Im not anti trenta. Its profit and I wont drink it. Just offering some perspective on why the people in Taiwan think we are lard asses.

I am a coffee drinker and I make it a habit that once a week I go to starbucks to have a cup of coffee. Well, I hope I can have some time for this week. Thank you for the post. Very nice!

I don't understand why people care so much about the trenta? You don't have to purchase it...it is in no way affecting your tall latte purchase. We have multiple customers who come in 2 to three times a day for ice tea, coffees both hot or iced, and even multiple frappuccinos. What difference does it make if a customer comes in 3 times a day for an iced coffee versus once a day for a trenta iced coffee. It isn't my responsibility to worry about what people are consuming, how fat they get, if they have diabetes or any heart issues and all the other health risks people constantly mention on this site. If people spent a quarter of this time worrying about drugs, alcohol and tobacco maybe there would be less health problems in America!

Anyone in New England knows that a large DD iced coffee has been about this size for years. The ice in an iced coffee or iced tea displaces a lot of liquid. What is the big effin deal?

Earnings call at 5pm ET
Posted by: Coffee Soldier | January 26, 2011 at 12:09 PM
I thought it was 6:30 ET
Posted by: sm fl | January 26, 2011 at 02:16 PM
Nope it was at 5....you can always go to Starbucks.com then investor relations way down on the bottom and click it and it will tell you when the next webcast is coming....I'm surprised a link wasn't on here to discuss during the call.....although usually this site thrives off bad news rather then good! This call seemed to be one more step towards the profitable company we once were!

Coffee Bean is not popular in Taiwan and has closed down for years.

The open forum for partners was at 6:30 ET. The replay's up now on www.starbucks.com/partners. No big announcements, but a cool presentation on mobile payment and the new card e-gift, as well as some stories from Howard on his trip to India.

This is only a topic because people are too stupid to read that its only cold drinks. People see 31oz at Starbucks and are thinking Fraps and lattes.
Which tells you... you'll have idiots trying to order tentra fraps and coffee all the time and expect you to just say yes. "Yes, I will make your thighs even larger."
or "can you put my venti frap in there for extra extra whipped cream and cellulite on my ass please?"
