The New York Post reports a "rogue" Starbucks store in Midtown Manhattan stayed open after others closed because of Hurricane Sandy, and that baristas served "hordes of caffeine-starved New Yorkers."
"Fans walked and took Town Cars to the Starbucks adjacent to the Marriott Marquis off Times Square, as word spread via social media that it was open," according to the Post.

I'm not sure about the terminology, but this location isn't an "official" store... I know they don't accept Starbucks cards. That said, I'm glad they're open. Coming from a New Yorker dealing with the aftermath of this mess, a hot cup of coffee would definitely help make things a bit better.

Marriott owns licensing rights to operate "Starbucks" cafes- similar to Target or Safeway, these are Marriott managed and operated with support through licensed operations integration that took place last year.
