I asked the man behind STARBUCKSCARDS.COM why he started the site. Christopher Higgs explained: "I've been a huge Starbucks fan for about 4 years and always enjoyed picking up a new Starbucks card when they appeared in my local stores (Toronto). I've only recently started collecting the cards formally through eBay auctions, etc. and currently only have about 20 different cards, but will be expanding that over time.
"When I first started collecting, I searched for a checklist that I could rate my collection against. I'd love to know every card issued in each country, the date the cards were issued, retired, local "special" cards, etc. I couldn't find such a list so I created this site to try to establish a resource base for myself and other collectors. I'm not in this to sell cards, etc., so I don't see this site becoming a commerce site. I'm going to post front/back pictures of all my cards as well as the special holders that Starbucks issued to go with some of them. My hope is that when others start collecting these cards, they will be able to use this site. I'd like to build as complete a "checklist" as quickly as possible (with sample pictures) so that others can use this information as a resource." (Visit StarbucksCards.com.)
Many thanks to all who checked out my site over the past few weeks. To the vast majority of you who saw only my initial introduction page, I wanted to let you know that I have completed the overall look and feel of the site and started to add content on a regular basis. I have recently added a history of the Starbucks card section as well as an initial checklist of all Starbucks cards available to the general public. This is my first website so I would really appreciate any feedback you have regarding the look and feel or the current content.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I am just starting to collect these cards. Here is what I don't understand: From going on ebay and watching for cards that are being sold, there is a big value placed on cards that have never been loaded or swiped. Does it ruin the value if the cards have been swiped?
Posted by: Lisa | May 23, 2006 at 06:42 PM
Is there a real check list of all cards issued which would list the id mumber in addition to any other information needed to identify where the card is from. There are some beautiful lists with pictures but that does not tell, for instance, which big red chair is from what country or area.

The card features the Flamingos from the San Diego Zoo. The art work is by Gloria Chadwick. If anyone is interested plz contact me by e-mail Nricci1@yahoo.com.

STARBUCKSCARDS.COM was relocated to BUCKSCARDS.COM due to legal reasons I believe... It is by far the nicest Starbucks collector site out there.

Wow, the question regarding how many Starbucks cards there are, is a difficult question to answer.
My answer at first would be, "It Depends"... It depends on what you collect. If you just collect the pictures, then the answer is simple.
As of June 30, 2007, I believe there have been 98 different designs that have been made by Starbucks.
However, if you collect each design from each country it was released in, then that number goes up substantially.
And likewise, if you also collect each of the separate releases of a card (i.e. the different card ID numbers) then again, it goes up.
So, as I said before, it all depends on what exactly you collect.

I would love to trade with people.
I work at Starbucks in O'Fallon, Illinois and have just recently begun collecting. I have about 16 different cards and TONS of repeats. Everyone I work with puts the giftcards we get in my little cubby, so I have TONS.

A silly question: Do you have to purchase a gift card at a Starbucks retailer or do they distribute them for free? I'm just starting to collect (my mom gave me a card for Christmas with $20 on it) and I'm wondering how to get started. Thanks for the info! Mike
