That's interesting. A joke? Who's paying for all the full-page ads and huge billboards I've been seeing -- the ones promoting Chantico? (Emory Wheel)
Not affiliated with Starbucks Corporation (obviously)
Those are cheap compared to TV advertising. Starbucks doesn't spend much compared to similar companies on advertising. Sure they spend more than a mom and pop shop but they are multi-national corporation

I agree, he most likely meant the broadcast budget. they use fallon new york to produce some very nice commercials every now and then but the budget compared to similar sized brands is laughable. they do one or two campaigns per year, with minimal media buy.

Starbucks does not really need advertizing because they have a good product, and spend money on training and giving benefits to their good staff, plus of course donating millions to community efforts. That in itself is good advertizing, much better than other large companies. When I volunteer at a Park clean up and find both coffee and Starbucks employees there at the Sat morning event, well that makes me a loyal 100% supporter. That is the kind of company I want on my neighborhood corner.

My company is a national radio network... when we looked into getting Starbucks as a regular client on the network (to go along with Ford, Procter & Gamble, Fox Broadcasting, and dozens of other large national companies) we were almost laughed out of town. Not only were they rude about it, they did very little to explain why this large company does so little brand reinforcement or new customer advertising. Strange but true.

Well, as far as I know, Starbucks doesn't give health coverage to all employees. You have to work a minimum 240 hours (or 20 hours average/week) a quarter to qualify and then you need to pay extra for the coverage which is quite difficult for people making a bit more than minimum wage...

I've been with starbucks a very very very long time. The company doesn't have any secrets that they don't want you to know. Former Clone, you've got nothing and you know it. And I honestly doubt that anyone would publish such a non-sensical book by someone who can't even punctuate properly.
Seriously, what kind of secrets could a coffee shop have? Soylent Green?

lately I've seen many of the people at starbucks smiling ear to ear. The quality of the coffee they serve is outstandning and there is little worrying tied to advertising with the company being sucha a sucess.
