"Testing's done," says Starbucks CEO Jim Donald. "It's very successful." (Ham, egg and cheese on a muffin is one offering.) The CEO says music stations will debut at more stores, too. A Wall Street Journal reporter writes: "It is clear from his plans that Starbucks wants to reshape itself more broadly into a retail chain, but the further it moves beyond its role as a server of lattes, the more risk it embraces." (Wall Street Journal)
ham egg and cheese on a muffin, how refreshingly original

I noticed that Starbucks earnings were not that great- and I am positive it is all because of the new food program. I'm not too optimistic. . .

How utterly ridiculous. This will only turn me away. We go to Starbucks for espresso/coffee. If we want a McMuffin we'll go to McDonalds. Bad, bad, bad idea.

In *$'s defense, I do like the fruit and cheese tray. Giving in to the fast food chains b-fest niche is deploreable, but might work. Just how many buy into a little muchie to go with their cup of schtuff?

People seem to have a certain image of what Starbucks is or should be, when in reality it's been a moving target all along. The Starbucks of 2005 is a different beast than the Starbucks of 1995 and bears no resemblance whatsoever to the Starbucks of 1985. They've done a pretty good job of figuring out what the public wants so far, so I'm inclined to think that perhaps they've done their research on these new additions, too.
Right now, the breakfast thing seems to be just placing it in your mind that it's there. They probably don't expect to beat McDonald's at their game, but they know a lot of their customers will go to Starbucks for their coffee and then McDonald's/Jack In the Box/Burger King for the quick breakfast. At some point, you're going to be strapped for time or in some other situation in which you can only make a limited number of stops and you'll remember "hey, Starbucks has those breakfast-type-things."
It's just speculation on my part, of course.

Reviewing the companies growth and tactic I see within two and a half quarters for the stock to split. If anyone has any other information or opinion on this idea please e-mail me. [email protected]
