My neighborhood Evanston, IL Starbucks says it's giving away grande-sized drip coffee on FRIDAY, APRIL 21 to anyone bringing in their own to-go mug. I suspect some US stores are doing the special on Saturday, which is officially Earth Day. This is from the Starbucks corporate site:
*Complimentary Coffee with Tumbler on Earth Day
All retail stores in Canada
Saturday, April 22, 2006
Our customers are offered a complimentary drip coffee on April 22nd, Earth Day if they use their tumblers. We encourage our customers to continue to use their tumblers on an ongoing basis. Simply by using your tumbler every day you are doing your part towards helping preserve our environment. Starbucks will also support your efforts on going by giving you a 10 cent discount off of any beverage.
I personally will give them away, though I haven't heard any buzz with US stores. Just as a thanks -- I'm sure my manager would love to.

It's not a U.S. thing. I wouldn't expect it.

We got a door sign for it about a month ago. Didn't think it was an option.
Heck, the rest of the team knows I have a crunchy streak a mile wide and would be likely to do something like that on Earth Day anyhow ;-)

Sort of off topic-- but for many years at many different locations I have bought a pound of coffee and gotten a free drip coffee, or had that price deducted from another drink. Lately I have been going to one store that has been saying that it was a promotion Starbucks stopped "five years ago" but then they still provide the discount after I mention the nearby stores that provide the free drip coffee. What's the real policy here?

None of the turmoil that routinely attends film-star existence ever seemed to visit the Astaire household.
