Starbucks says it's received 23 reports of melting plastic around the Starbucks Barista Aroma 8-cup coffee brewer. No injuries have been reported. (Seattle Times)
Not affiliated with Starbucks Corporation (obviously)
I'm not too sure if this is true for all stores, but we will be offering a Delonghi 10-Cup upgrade if you return your Barista Aroma 8-cup.

It should also be noted that there is a free pound of whole bean coffee as an incentive to return the brewer. Also, nobody was injured, nor have there been any consumer reports. Starbucks reported the issue as a result of its own findings.

may i just add that i've already dealt with some "interesting" people because of this. One lady wanted to return hers to get ANOTHER one, same kind. I tried for like 10 minutes to tell her that obviously if that line has been recalled, she can't quite get the same one again....and hello! we're gonna give you a 10 CUP maker for free w/ coffee! why complain?
*LOL* sometimes I just don't get people....but that's the joys of working in customer service.

and we]'re supposed to say yes if customers insist that they want the full price refunded, even if they don]'t have a receipt and god knows what they paid originally.

i assume some people are just returning them because they got them as gifts and didn't want them but every january i always got tons of aromas returned with various performance problems. used to drive me nuts.

ROTFLMAO, ICEDSOYLATTE. That made my first major laugh of the day/coffee spit-out of my mouth.....though that type of customer is obnoxious to deal with. :)

I've had the same response from someone asking if they could get the same one -- I told them the deal and about the new Kitchen-aid one we're going to be selling at Christmas.
Honestly, I haven't been impressed with anything except the Barista. Digital Italias with steam wands that fall off, Delonghis who if you take out the little rinser thingy inside that will never work again, solos that overheat and kill circuit boards, and now the 8 cup.
I'll keep my candy apple red barista thank you very much and go to the store when I want anything besides an americano.

as sad as this sounds, i just called them for the recall and it was a great concern about how long out of pocket i will not be able to have coffee in the AM. i guess the refund check is in the "recovery" package.
too bad, i am not a big fan of the aesthetics of the new machine.

I just called mine in. They say it will take about 3 weeks to get the refund check (after they receive the machine back). Odd though, I have not seen the Delonghi advertised at Starbucks.ca (Canada)- and they still show the deadly 8-cupper (hey, maybe they are repackaging all the duds and will resell them to us dumb Canadians). Guess I should get a Tim Horton's coffe maker instead now
ho hum!

I had a fire in mine this morning. What a scare I had no idea there was a recall. It burnt the cabinets and put plastic all over the house before the fire extinguisher was used to put it out (Get one if you don't already have one in the kitchen). I called and they'll send me a check for $110 after I return the burnt up coffee maker and carafe. It will cost me way more than that to fix my kitchen.
