FoxNews.com posted a story today that quotes a former barista saying that "Starbucks is the best place for star-spotting." The reporter uses Starbucks Gossip posts for her list of celebrities and their favorite Starbucks drinks. The celebs-at-Starbucks item was posted here nearly two years ago. It's time to ask again: Which celebs have you spotted, what did they order and how did they behave? (FoxNews.com)
Btw, Hal? We don't expect tips from the average Joe just trying to get a cup of brew to get through his day. We expect tips from the people with exceedingly complicated pain-in-the-ass drink orders. Like the ones that cost $4 and more. A normal coffee is less than two bucks.

I saw V Sevani from NLT at the Starbucks with Lissa Lauria in Studio City, California!

Sicily Yoder came in today for a Grande Vanilla Bean Frappachino and a scone- she didn't eat the scone because she didn't like it- her bodyguard ate it!

I work at Starbucks in the Atlanta area. When the Dancing with the Stars tour came to Atlanta, Julianne Hough came into our store before the show. She was really nice, and ordered a nonfat peppermint steamer. Other celebrities we regularly see:
Eric Dane - tall nonfat dry cappuccino
Ellen Pompeo - tall nonfat, no whip mocha

Sicily Yoder came in here in Georgetown, and got a Naked Mango juice and a package of cookies. She tiped well, and I over heard her talking to Faith( I assume, Faith Hill?) about her summer tour, and the long hours she would have to pull.

Sicily Yoder came in here ( Lexington) yesterday. She tipped well and stayed for an hour, making phone calls and writing in her planner- she had a vanilla frappachino.

The "real-life" barbie, Jenny-Lee comes into my Starbucks in Cedar Park, Tx VERY often. She came in 2 times the other day.
She has so much plastic surgery to make herself look like barbie..but she looks like a mutated burn victim(what i thought the first time I saw her). Shes been on Oprah 2 times.
She is a total, cheap BITCH. Completely rude to all the baristas.
She wants us to charge her for a venti, 2 shot, 4-WM, 3 1/2-M, No vanilla hot chocolate....When you should REALLY be charging her for a venti white mocha with mocha...fake, cheap ass wants her petty 14 cents...
We hate her.
At least we have pretty, NATURAL bodies with plenty of self-esteem!
I could totally go on..

Sicily once visited my Starbucks, with Ashley- both were so sweet and nice- Ashley had a Soy Latte and Sicily had a Vanilla Frappachino with extra cream. I can't wait to meet them and actually get my picture taken with both of them. Sicily is supposed to be doing a state fair tour, so I hope to see her again, as she will probably come in for drinks- I heard her say she was hooked on the frappachinos. I've also met Nick Lachey- he is very nice and friendly.

Sicily Yoder is currently touring where I live- I overheard her say that she was, "addicted to Starbucks"., and wished that we had one here in Harlan- she was so sweet...but her bodyguard wouldn't let me get her autograph since they were leaving.

Christopher Titus came into my store a couple of months ago. I heard he has a home somewhere in the Sierra foothills and stops by a Starbucks on his way back to Los Angeles. I admit I was starstruck but I treated him like I would any customer.

According to CNN's 50 best companies to work for in the US, Starbucks is number 7... and the only one where employees think they deserve tips. I worked minimum wage jobs for 6 years, all of which were harder than being a "barista", and not once did i get a tip. Everyone posting on this board who complains about people not tipping well needs to stop and think. do you tip your garbage man? do you tip your doctor? no. you don't. those jobs are harder. those jobs are more necessary. and yet for some reason you think making a pretty design on the top of my morning coffee merits the 39 cents you just gave me back after i handed you a five dollar bill. You embody everything that's wrong with the overly expectant youth of today.
let's get one thing straight. your job is not hard. that's why you get paid (close to) minimum wage, so stop acting like you're the God of coffee and I should be kneeling before you in awe of how you mastered the cappuccino machine.
and CALI ASM... starstruck by christopher titus? really? I'm laughing hysterically right now... i think christopher titus would be laughing too, if he heard that. I'd hate to see what you'd do if Carrot Top ever walked into your store.

Kirstie Alley comes to my Starbucks whenever she's in Wichita. She's from here and still owns a house here, so I think she's in town a few times a year. Acts very haughty.
Taye Diggs stopped in once, when he was in Wichita to speak about choreography at Wichita State. Really, really genuinely nice guy.

Adrianna lima- the victorias secret model ordered a sugar free vanilla latte iced grande size. she was in town for the superbowl and even prettier in person

I have met Ashley Judd, Ricky Skaggs, and Loretta Lynn, as well as Sicily Yoder ( can you guess what highway I live near- 23- Music Highway- you guessed right!) Ashley is so sweet and down to earth. Ricky seems like a very good Christian man- I love how Loretta Lynn is so down to earth- and she tipped well. Sicily Yoder, on the other hand, is a diva girl- making her bodyguards order everything, and she sent back the vanilla bean grande because it didn't have enough vanilla taste- I over heard her complaining about the paparazzi- what a terrible life...being a diva girl in the spotlight- NOT!! The 4 camera guys who came in and took her picture were very nice...not your sleezy guys like tv makes them out to be, so I don't think she has such a terrible life.

Someone should alert Bencn Memos, the legal blog of National Review Online. They will probably spin it into a lengthy rant about wimpy liberals and their wimpy drink preferences. Real men drink diner coffee.

I work at at Starbucks in a hotel, so I have met a lot of famous custmers. Bryan Adams, Cheryl Crow, the canadian football player that was on the batcelor along with his entire team, Wayne Gretski (who does not tip at all - his wife over tips to compensate), all the Canadian party leaders except Gilles Ducept and a lot of smaller indy bands and athletes.
Mike Holmes ordered a Non-fat chai.
One of my employees almost ran into David Suzuki with a cart full of garbage.

I got to make John Malkovich a double tall dry cappuccino. He said it was delicious ... I could have died!
Luke Wilson had a regular latte one day and a no syrup Iced Coffee (in winter) the other day he was in.
I personally made a Cinnamon Dulce Steamer for Mitt Romney one morning when he was guest hosting the Paul Harvey radio show.
Dane Cook doesn't drink coffee, so he got a water instead. Jason Biggs had a Grande Vanilla Latte. Were in my town, Belmont, filming the salon scene for their latest movie, it's in the trailer.
Now I am Melrose so no one really has come in there that anyone out here would know.

Both Jessica Simpson and Sicily Yoder are very nice, sweet girls. I don't agree with the previous posts about Sicily being a diva-girl. She is so sweet...and so are her bodyguards.

Suzanne Somers came into a store I worked at, don't remember the drink. She was with a man.
Also Jessica Biel is really great, totally chill to talk to.
I also had a regular customer for about a year, named Felicia, who I later discovered was the star of a Mexican soap opera. Total diva, but great to serve. She always ordered Grande Non-fat EXTRA DRY caps. We had a new trainee at one point, and Felicia actually came back and asked me to re-make the cappuccino myself. She's also been to the store I work at now, and has since switched to Grande Non-fat Chai Lattes.

John from John & Kate Plus 8 came in to our store a few times when he was in town, and each time bought some Naked juices and a Venti 7pCaramel XH Latte. None of that is completely organic, to my knowledge, and neither was the McAllister's where my friends saw him hauling to-go boxes into his rental car. I found that entertaining. He was pretty nice, really low-key.

Doting father Ben Affleck was spotted on a rare trip out with daughter Violet earlier today, as the two made a trip to the local Starbucks for a quick pick-me-up.The Good Will Hunting actor rarely leaves his Santa Monica spread, at least that’s what his wife, actress Jennifer Garner, has to say.

On the tip or not to tip discussion: just don't make it about how "hard" a barista's job is. If you've never been a barista, you don't know. Maybe it is as easy as you think, maybe it's not, but if you've never done it you have no way of knowing.
Personally, I never *expected* anything when I was a barista. It's true that baristas are paid at least minimum wage, unlike restaurant servers. However, I did work in a Tarbucks for a few months(Starbucks in Target) where we couldn't accept tips. Some customers actually got a angry that they COULDN'T tip us. Some would insist on leaving some change on the counter, even after I told them I couldn't accept it. Some people actually WANT to tip, and I don't see anything wrong with letting them do so. And yes, if you order 20 drinks when there's a line to the door and the baristas are already frazzled, it would be courteous of you to throw a couple of bucks in the tip jar. But no, it is not necessary and should not be expected by the baristas. If you do want to tip, though, don't do it because you think it's expected, do it as a "thank you" for a job well done or because someone above and beyond the call of duty for you.
Posted by: kheila | September 13, 2008 at 11:58 PM
Also, I remember hearing once that the concept of tipping actually originated in coffee shops (somebody please correct me if that's not actually true). You'd throw in a little extra money in order to be served faster than usual ("To Insure Prompt Service"). I know that can't be used as an argument for tipping at a coffee shop, but it seems like it's only fair that if you tip in other circumstances, you'd tip in the setting where the practice originated.
In an effort to make this more on-topic, I've served 2 famous people: Brian Setzer (of the Stray Cats and Brian Setzer Orchestra) came in fairly regularly to the grocery store in Minneapolis where I worked in the coffee shop. Ordered a small drip coffee (I got so nervous I spilled it!). Very nice. He usually came in with a woman who I assume is his girlfriend or wife, tall, thin, blond, pretty, and much younger than him :) I always wanted to see what kind of car he drove, but never got a chance to look (or maybe he just walked).
I also served the governor of Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty. That would be even cooler now if McCain had chosen him as his running mate (and I hear that Pawlenty was on the short list). I think he came in with his family, got a couple of lattes.

does anyone know what rachel zoe gets??
Posted by: an | September 25, 2008 at 02:02 PM
I don't exactly work in celeb central :).
The only genuine celeb I have served is Amy Carter. I'm old enough to recall the days when she was first daughter and I actually recognized her- the younger ones did not. I believe she got an iced coffee and she was quite nice.
We get off-duty Elvis impersonators from time to time, which is always fun. They often want to "talk about E".
We have a semi-regular customer that looks exactly like Bruce Campbell. I know it couldn't possibly be, but he looks so like him he could be the guy's stunt double. I'm always tempted to make Evil Dead jokes.

Roger Schultz (2nd place on Biggest Loser) comes in and gets a Venti Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte. He is the nicest person and super chatty! Thinner than when he was last on the show...
Also, my district manager was serenaded by Whitney Houston in her old store... Whitney pre-Bobby of course.

We got the CT Huskies Basketball coach, forget his name (Jim? Tim? Calhoun).
We also get the main actor from the show "Life On Mars" and his wife, who is also an actress.
She gets an Iced Grande or venti decaf no whip mocha, he gets a triple (i think? god im bad at remembering drinks, haha) nonfat latte.
They also get a bunch of bacon or sausage sandwiches.
They arent mean or nice, just cool and polite, wear sunglasses (like anyone cares), get their stuff and leave. They dont like to call attention to themselves.
But I notice! haha. I think i was the only one.
I wasnt expecing to get celebrities in CT, I can tell you that.

Derek Jeter comes to my store all the time 85th and 1st NYC....He'd pull up daily in his black Escalade, double park and order a triple grande skim cap. Somedays he was mildly polite at best. He would get all uppity when someone asked for an autograph and he NEVER tipped....NEVER

Stevie nicks is a beautiful, humble woman! When she came to our Starbucks in the Hardrock in Biloxi, ms she not only was amazingly the nicest celebrity we have ever served, and we serve a lot being in the Hardrock casino, she also sent autographed photos for all of us. She drinks a grande soy latte. I cannot comment enough on her. She thanked us all and went out of her way to tell us that she has visited a lot of shatbucks stores, but we are the first that she felt compelled to sign autographs for. She is truly a star worthy of her fame!
