Mark Malkoff's stops at the New York City stores cost him $369.14. He made a little film about the experience, which you can watch online. (171Starbucks.com)
Not affiliated with Starbucks Corporation (obviously)
Wow. What a total loser.
Maybe next time he could give his $369.14 (or even part of that $80 tip for the pound cake) to some of the homeless and needy that he certainly ran over (and ignored) on his bike.
Aaaarrrgh!
Posted by: ErosLane | July 18, 2007 at 03:40 PM
Hilarious. That is how I felt today after my 8hr drive thru shift with 171 Starbucks drive-thru customers!
Posted by: Organic Dopio | July 18, 2007 at 04:25 PM
That was freakin' awesome!!! ErosLane needs to chill, he didn't hit, run over, or ignore anyone. You need to lighten up.
Posted by: | July 18, 2007 at 04:32 PM
Jenny or Jody from 96th and Madison, better have an explanation ready for your store manager.
Posted by: redcup | July 18, 2007 at 05:15 PM
store manager? Try the rest of the store, wondering where their cut of the 80$ is!
Posted by: Zipy | July 18, 2007 at 05:37 PM
My store is number 163. We are open all night. That is the night shift, Paul, ringing up the purchase.
Anyone who finds out the repercussions/consequences for both Jenny who took the $80 for pound cake, and for the guy who closed the store well before the posted closing time (they're supposed to remain open 10 minutes later), PLEASE POST THEM HERE!
Posted by: pt | July 18, 2007 at 05:44 PM
May I just point out that Mark works for The Colbert Report - the best show on television?
It's true. Just my two cents.
Posted by: Sandra | July 18, 2007 at 06:33 PM
i hate people that do stuff like this. like that winter guy too. "omg there are so many starbucks they're horrible blahblahblah". if you have a problem with the company don't go there, don't make bs documentaries about them. and secondly, this guy is complaining/hyping how much caffiene he had and how much money he spent. if he'd gotten a short decaf at every place, he would have prob spent about a third less and wouldn't have had side effects. oh the joys of propaganda.
Posted by: B | July 18, 2007 at 08:19 PM
Why are there commenters whining about this video or the winter thing? They're just quirky little observations about how many Starbucks there are, lighten up.
Posted by: Conor | July 18, 2007 at 10:01 PM
I think it's great! This world would be a much happier place if people chose to get excited about random things such as this.
Posted by: | July 18, 2007 at 10:39 PM
Seriously...I want to know what happens to the $80 pound cake girl.
Posted by: AnonBarista | July 18, 2007 at 11:25 PM
So close-an-hour-early man and 80-dolla-pound-cake-chick are both out of uniform. What's the deal?

I'd totally take $80 for a pound cake from a crazy man banging at my door after close. But more likely I'd ignore him and if he didn't leave I'd call the police.
Posted by: | July 19, 2007 at 01:18 AM
Also, can I please have that 10 minutes of my life back?
Posted by: | July 19, 2007 at 01:20 AM
Why are you people complaning? Its just for fun. Besides, I know that everyone here has spent $80 on something they didn't need that they could have given to the needy. What a stupid comment.
Posted by: fgdfgfdg | July 19, 2007 at 01:27 AM

And did you know that if you have a problem with the documentary you don't have to watch it? =0
Posted by: fhfdhgfd | July 19, 2007 at 01:37 AM
People need to chill I swear. You all take things way to seriously. So what? The guy had a little fun making a documentary film about the fact that there are so many Starbucks everywhere...big whoop. If you already know that you hate things like this, why even bother watching it all the way through just to complain that it stole ten minutes of your life. It's people like this, hypocrites really, that annoy me more. Also people that make comments like "The money spent to do this would have been better off going to the needy" Whatever... Unless you are an avid helper of the needy, you don't have any right to say.
grow a sense of humor, take a lesson in sarcasm, it's the "in thing" nowadays if you don't want to come off as an uptight idiot
Posted by: gay barista | July 19, 2007 at 02:27 AM
He came to my store.
I thought it was hilarious as hell. Although they lied to me and didn't tell me what they were really shooting. LMAO I see now, why. Funny stuff though.
Posted by: The Case | July 19, 2007 at 02:40 AM
What a riot! The things people come up with.
Posted by: | July 19, 2007 at 07:45 AM
i'm glad there are proper nerds out there willing to jump through hoops in attempt to get people to marvel at the sheer determination it takes to complete such a task. personally, i feel bad for his stomach---just how much sugary caffine-laden things did he consume?
Posted by: burnt bean | July 19, 2007 at 08:25 AM
Some of ya'll need to chill out, it's just in fun. I found it amusing. Have to admit though, that's a LOT of coffee to drink in one day :p
Posted by: Kat | July 19, 2007 at 09:32 AM
I got a kick out of him acting like 8 espresso shots in 3 hours was a lot. Me and my buddy do them when we get bored in the mornings, I'm pretty sure I had 21 in a 3-4 hour block one morning.
Posted by: P-Row Shift | July 19, 2007 at 10:00 AM
I am pretty sure the store that closed early did so because of Warming implantation, or some other store modification.
The guy was out of uniform and didn't look like your avarage barista - but more like a contracter or something.
Great video though!
Posted by: Andrew | July 19, 2007 at 11:51 AM
Mark, this is truly adorable!
I'd have lent you a Starbucks T-shirt for your endeavor. No, I'd have given you one.
Posted by: cornfrost | July 19, 2007 at 01:18 PM
When he said 'I've had 8 espresso shots in the last...' I thought for sure it would be like, 10 minutes. Not 3 hours. Pansy.
Posted by: AnonBarista | July 19, 2007 at 01:22 PM
That was AWESOME! The sheer amount of planning that went into this was amazing. I'd like to talk to him about the differences between the stores, LOL!
Posted by: Lindsey | July 19, 2007 at 04:08 PM
Yeah 80-dollar-coffee-cake girl and closed-early guy have some 'splainin to do....
Posted by: atownsbuxrules | July 19, 2007 at 05:11 PM
RE: Out of uniform.
It was a Friday and we can wear non-collar starbucks shirts that varies in many colors as long as it's Starbucks' (including Sat/Sun)
It was a blast to watch :D
The guy shouldn't have closed the store early. When my store had to do something like that we post it up so customers won't be pissed off (and we can't be sued)
Regardless, the girl and the guy are probably in trouble now...
Posted by: Terry | July 19, 2007 at 07:46 PM
Jenny should be term'd. It's all about the opening the door once you are closed policy. I wouldn't want to work with anyone that ignorant. Remember SBUX W/DC. Video was a riot, but doesn't make it right to jeopardize the safety of yourself and fellow partners.
Posted by: | July 20, 2007 at 11:22 AM
OMG - that was freaking hilarious!
As for the people who can't take the joke ... too bad, so sad.

This guy rules. Last November, I visited all 88 Ohio counties in 24 hours - www.everywhatever.com
Posted by: Dan | July 20, 2007 at 03:58 PM
i about died when he was in the bathtub bonging hot coffee. hilarious!
Posted by: kzoobarista | July 20, 2007 at 06:27 PM
Good video!
The $1 biscotti guy is a hottie!
AND Cousin Larry..this video has it all! Hilarious.
I hardly think Jenny should be fired for opening the door. Maybe she doesn't realize the risk and someone could simply explain it to her. And I'm pretty sure she could take that guy if he tried something anyway.

Terry... you said
"The guy shouldn't have closed the store early. When my store had to do something like that we post it up so customers won't be pissed off (and we can't be sued)"
You must be joking? You can't be sued... LOL. This shows the average intelligence of Starbucks employees. Wow.
Just to clear this up (by the way... I'm amazed that you were able to learn how to use the computer, Terry!) Starbucks is a private establishment. They can close or open at any time they choose, regardless of the posted time.
Quit saying things if you don't know what you're talking about. It makes you and the company look very ignorant and uninformed... I might even say stupid.
Starbucks, please, please, PLEASE encourage your employees to only say what they know, and not make it up as they go along.

Oh how I long for a 24h STARBUCKS in (or near) Toronto. So many STARBUCKS, far too short hours! Some (just north of Toronto) even close at, or earlier than 9PM !!!!!

You must have the biggest ego of anyone I have ever come across. No one has appointed you teacher in this forum, people are here to speak freely. I think it speaks more about you than their stupidity as you put it. Why don't you get a job at your neaarest university, you can behave like you are a notch above everyone there and no one would care. What a bitch.
