A just-released "caffeinated cities survey" says the top 5 cities for coffee consumption are:
1. Seattle/Tacoma
2. Boston
3. Houston
4. Chicago
5. Miami
LEAST COFFEE CONSUMPTION
1. Dallas/Ft. Worth
2. New York
3. St. Louis
4. Atlanta
5. Philadelphia

I wonder if anyone knows what the Canadian cities ranking would be? I am sure Victoria and Vancouver must be near the top for espresso beverages, although the highly acidic double doubles are the favorite further east.

I dunno, they only surveyed 20 cities. That explains why Salt Lake City isn't listed as the least caffeinated city. Seems kind of arbitrary to me.

it surprises me that new york is on the least caffinated list, but chicago is no surprise to me, i certainly sling enough lattes there.

I live in St. Louis and I am probably Starbuck's biggest fan in this whole state. Of course, I am from the Pacific Northwest so that might explain a few things.

How is New York 2nd on the least caffeinated list?!!?
I feel like that has to be inaccurate... that or the rest of the country drinks a #^^$ load of coffee.....
Hmmm I guess that makes sense.... :]

Because the coffee in NYC blows goats.

My theory on NYC is the strong immigrant population combined with alternative beverages to coffee.
i.e.
Most Energy Drink Consumption
Red Bull, etc.
1. Riverside/San Bernardino
2. Los Angeles
3. Chicago
4. Miami
5. New York

Off-topic questions to baristas. I noticed the holiday beverages have been launched. On SB's Website, I saw that you can order a short Gingerbread Latte, or a short Peppermint Mocha.
Can you confirm, or am I going to look like an idiot when I ask for a short?

You can order any of the drinks in any of the sizes.

I have a hard time understanding how Vancouver failed to place number 1 or 2 on that list.
After all, Bette Midler once did famously remark: “I’ve never seen so much coffee in all my life. The whole town is on a caffeine jag...”

"You can order any of the drinks in any of the sizes".... as long as you are at a company store. Licensed stores dont carry short, or dont know what it is. I have had some success asking licensed stores to use a "kids" size cup for my double short latte.

Look, I'm doing my best here in Atlanta, I drink enough by myself to rank us at least in the top 10! We have "million dollar" club signs in many of the Starbucks. So who did this survey, anyway?

Ironically, I've had horrible luck finding a quality mocha in Chicago and Boston. (Probably three of the five worst mochas I've had in the last decade came from my two one-week trips to Massachusetts.) Ah, well. Guess that has nothing to do with whether they'll swig 'em down anyway!
