Remember the case of the Starbucks customer who died while pursuing a young couple who stole a tip jar from a St. Louis Starbucks? (Here are the details.) Aaron M. Poisson, 19, of Cumming, Ga., has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to a year in jail.|| Read "Teen gets year in jail in Starbucks manslaughter case" || "I'm truly and deeply sorry for everything that's gone on"
The truth lies not in the words but in the what if. What if he had not been caught? Would he still be truly sorry?

Likely not, Denise. He is only sorry he got caught. I think a year in prison is shameful, that poor man he ran over will never have his life back.

You can kill a person with a car while riding in a hurry after stealing money, and you get only a year of jail?
I think you can up to 13 years in jail by just growing some pot at home...
What kind of world (I mean the US) are we living in?

I guess we now know the value of a life according to this judge.
Personally, Stabucks senior management deserves more time in prison than that for killing our company.

Wow. New record and bad, bad segue. Only four comments in and you've managed to take this horrible thing that's happened to the deceased person and family and turn it around to make it all about you...
Good job!
Heartless bitching is what you're good at. I cannot imagine you've done anything to NOT kill Starbucks. If anything, you've probably accelerated the "killing" at a faster clip than the gentlemen (and ladies) in the home office could EVER hope to pace at.
And, honestly, if anything, they're at least DOING something. I tried VIA, pretty tasty for what it is and I could see that being a solid offering for the company. Brings about the whole every-man mystique Starbucks desperately needs right now. As well, service seems to be getting better. I've started visiting again and can honestly say it's not been too bad. The company seems to be doing better now than any time in the last two years, from a customer-perspective. Note, though, my expectations are LOW, LOW, LOW so that could help out.
Anyhow, it's, you that's judging and you're not even a qualified judge, unlike the real judge who processed this case.
Either way, you're a whiner. That is all.

A whole year?
Yeah, they really threw the book at this kid. That's like a lifetime without playing PS3.

One year just doesn't seem sufficient.

It's true, this is a shitty situation, what can we do though? Not much. Condolences to everyone affected.

You say you're a customer but you sound like a Starbucks corporate stooge. Maybe you're one of those corporate website monitors sent to discourage any unpopular oppinions that may come up.
Maybe the company should fix the problems instaed of hiding their mistakes.
Oh, and of course this death is a tragic occurrence that warrants condolences and prayes for the family and friends left behind. One year is a slap on the wrist to the offender and one more example of how society enables this type of tragety.

I heard that Lord Peter Mandelson, who attacked our beloved and fearless leader, got green custard in his eye from an activist protesting the expansion of Heatherthrow. Too bad it wasn't a green tea frappuccino(r) blended creme!

Set aside for a second the fact that this case has anything to do with starbucks - one year does not seem like an appropriate punishment for a chain of events that started with theft and ended up with someone dead. Plea bargains and technicalities may serve us, but they don't do justice. (I'm not advocating mob vigilanteism, but there has to be some balance between the extremes.)

Seems as though you people could find better things to gossip about. Do any of you know this guy? Were any of you at Starbucks the time it happened and witnessed it for yourselves? Those of you who were, keep talking and expressing your opinions based on fact. Everyone else, stop playing God, you weren't involved, and the case doesn't involve you.
