Starbucks's move is only the latest of an industry-wide trend. Other coffee companies have raised the price of their packaged beans. If you're a frugal shopper, check the weekly Walgreen's fliers; they often have Starbucks ground coffee for about $7. Read "Say it ain't so, Joe: Starbucks raises packaged-coffee prices"
I wonder if a price increase is coming soon on beverages then to account for espresso and brewed coffee in store....17% is a big increase...it's really too bad because we have been our whole bean sales have spiked since the 11% increase in grocery stores a few weeks ago.

Just saw a news bit about the most hated people in Seattle. They were taking to people about the Yankees playing in Seattle. They were asking about A-rod. People hated Howard more because he sold the Sonics. He is the second most hated sports person in Seattle.

There's been a lot of hurricanes in the Latin America region the last few years. That is where most of our coffee is produced. We only use Arabica beans which means EACH bean is hand picked. We have increased our C.A.F.E. practices which cost money.

They ought to get some PM's going on these Mastrena machines that lose calibration after 2-3 pairs of shots. So many bad espresso shots going down the drain. I never thought I'd miss the 801's.
Oh wait, what's preventative maintenance again?

HERE HERE ERSTWHILE. The mastrenas fail ALL THE TIME. There is nothing more obnoxious than the biweekly dance with the mechanic during a mid afternoon rush. Terrible.

JECLASSE have you said a mouthfull!! Especially with this "repeatable routine" we do the "Mastrena Repair Dance" several times a month. When that happens you also can not double bar and everyone just watches as they have to wait forever for their drinks!

Many things are leading to the increase of coffee prices. Not only hurricanes but droughts, flooding, are just some of the reasons coffee prices are increasing. Not only coffee but everything on the commodities market is rising in cost. Supply and demand also plays a factor in the increase. People are starting to understanding the difference between good coffee and bad coffee and more people are demanding finely grown coffees.

On a another note. I heard starting sometime in the next couple of months Starbucks will be giving the option to its customers weather they want their bagels toasted or not. It's another thing for customers to be overly picky about.

We always offer to toast bagels. The often toasts it 2 ways: Lightly or medium. You will recieve a bagel slicer. We usually slice them all first thing in the morning so when someone wants them toasted, we just have to pop them in the oven. It doesn't take anymore time than warming anything else.

In our area, our bagels are already sliced when we receive them. Hopefully this will happen for you as well. It saves a lot of time and I don't mind toasting them at all, especially after a Chonga bagel comes out of the oven. YUM!!!!

The best deal on Starbucks French Roast is @ Sam's Club. Today the price for a 2 pound bag was $17.98. I bought a few before the price increase!

It's kind of sad when 8.99 per pound is a deal. I'm so glad the store I work at (a Barnes & Noble) gives us a discount on Starbucks coffee!
But I suppose I'd rather spend that on a bag per week or so than a big huge vat of Maxwell House, which I keep going to when I'm po' and keep gagging on and then giving away to my bf's employees. :/

I used to work for B&N, now I work for the Bux. Other factors aside, I will say that I benefit more from Starbucks' discount policies--free coffee every week, free beverages while I work, and a tip jar. These are things that are against B&N policy. That said, I also have to work a lot harder for the hourly wage at Starbucks than I did at B&N.
