Speaking of the new year, it looks like SBUX has a Chicken Sausage Breakfast Wrap debuting in 2012 (according to a COMING SOON sign in my neighborhood store).
Any other things on the Coming Soon list that readers would be interested in?

Hopefully Refreshers will be launching in 2012! And I've heard rumblings of a Tazo makeover. But I'm not sure.

New York Times uses Starbucks barista as example of someone with a crappy job:

Who wants to have a career as a Barista? It's a great job while your looking for another job or going to school, but if you are REALLY going to stay at Sbux then at least try to become some form of shift/asm/sm.
If it seems like that's never going to happen, I suggest a career change.

Hopefully there are jobs for these people when they get out of school.. I just had 2 re-hires come aboard because they left to go to school full time but couldn’t find a job when they got out

My plan is to make ASM this year, save up some money and then enroll in grad school. I don't wanna be in Starbucks my whole life, but I can't say anything bad about what this company has done for me

more luck to her, but likely she'll be back at starbucks in three years, with her masters degree in hand, and an additional ten grand in debt..

Does anyone know when Salted Caramel Mocha is coming off the menu? I need to mentally prepare myself...
Posted by: Martha | December 31, 2011 at 05:43 PM
The salted caramel mocha can be made year round (well, maybe if the store has lots of salt left [mine has four cases tucked away in the back]). What makes it is mocha and toffee nut, whip on top with caramel sauce and salt.

I know what's in it, I guess I'm wondering when they're going to stop shipping the salt. To me, that TOTALLY makes the drink! :)
Posted by: Martha | December 31, 2011 at 09:29 PM
Well, Martha..the rest of us won't be able to offer it because Ian has it all tucked away in the back, so hopefully, you are one of his customers..except when the product goes bad and they are still trying to use it.

Also, doesn't it cost more to ring it in as Mocha + TN + (sub?) Cr sauce + Salt Topping?
Does Simphony still adjust the price of syrup + sauce?

The SCM button will probably go away come Jan 10. And so will PSL again.

It does adjust the price.

I've been actively trying to become a shift for years. I work hard, I keep myself and others educated on countless points. DMs and managers love me, coworkers are constantly amazed that I haven't been moved up yet. But it still never happens -- there's never enough room, there's never enough time for my harried managers to start the process, there's always another shift from another store/state being transferred in. It's incredibly frustrating. Move on? Move where? To put in a few more years at the bottom rung of some other company, hoping they have more space for promotions? It would be a lot more feasible to move on if I had some supervisory experience under my belt. Which only adds to my own severe frustrations.

Javagirl666-
We also have amassed half a dozen or so boxes of cold sample cups and about thirty bottles of cinnamon dolce. I think we will begin sampling out Iced Salty Cinnamon Dolce Water. We would use half-and-half, but we haven't received any in a couple of days. :(.

Sounds like someone is having trouble with inventory management. That tells me you are not in my area..because that would not be tolerated..you would have a DM in your backroom throwing all of that "clutter" away!! LOL. Good luck with the dairy.

Just got our Veranda(Blonde roast) in today with our RP order today. My store now has 6 cases of the 5 lb bullets, 4 cases of the 2 ounce sample packs, 2 cases of the Via and no more space in the back room. Also no showing of the Willow that I heard was on shortage, wondering if we'll get any in for the official launch.
Posted by: SwabnTheDeck | January 01, 2012 at 05:32 PM
I give up on sample cups. After a point we have x amount of cases and we all know we will never, ever, go through that many sample cups by the time they send us more sample cups.
It's really sad, but honestly, if I have free time it's time spent cleaning not really sampling.
Posted by: Anon | January 01, 2012 at 05:40 PM
Anon...same goes where I am...We spend all free time cleaning as well. Occasionally, we sample at the register on Saturday a.m. or right at the hand off area. I can't remember the last time I went around the cafe with samples because I take those free minutes to ensure my duty roster is 100%.
We also got so many red sample cups it was impossible to use them all. They auto shipped I think 4 times..and this week I got more (back to white) automatically along with 20 cases of Verande, 12 Willow and 10 Decaf Willow...can you say we hold our breath to get into backroom...everything is on risers with about a foot and a half to squeeze through.

Coffee Slodier :) I bet the Fire Inspector would love the 18" wide access to the back door. Especially if the cheese melts all over the tile and the oven blows up preventing anyone in the back from reaching the front door. I exaggerate of course, but it's just one more of those crazy things we face on a regular basis.

Just found out no Casa Cielo this year....bummer.
Posted by: Earle | January 03, 2012 at 11:50 AM
No Casi Cielo? Where did you hear that? It is already advertised in the coffee tour gift you can buy and have 6 coffees shipped to you over the year...I believe in February is the Cielo.

if you sample, yet have too many 4 oz hot or iced cups -- use them instead of 'the sampling vessels' to sample food in..
often it fits better and is easier to stack (if needed for pre-prepping samples)
