Will it say ONWARD!? Tell us more!
The same commenter wrote in the thread below: "I'm hoping [Christmas Day] tips will be $12.50 per hour like 2007 (hint, hint Santa baby) but either way, it's a great day to work."
#12.50/hour! How's that compare to your store on holidays?
I can't remember the exact total, but I know last year the 3 of us each got over 100 dollars in tips and we were only open for 4 hours!

The tips are why we were able to staff four stores in a matter of minutes. Everybody wants them.

Our store dropped over $60 in tips before 8:30 this morning. Christmas has definitely come early this year.

Jim the shirts say, "Waking up Christmas morning with Starbucks on the back and the new logo on one sleeve. Red with a steaming white coffee cup. I'm thinking Santa may grant my wish too. So far from customers this year I have gotten $150 in cash and gift cards in my stocking. I in turn have shared that buy using it to spend smiles for my friends. Merry Christmas everyone. Tomorrow is going to rock, I just know it.

I thought tips were to be divided amongst everyone who worked that day. So when I see partners getting handed "personal" envelopes with tips in them, and then showing and telling everyone how they got $100.00 dollars, that should be considered stealing. The $100.00 dollars should be split amongst those partners, not taken as a personal gift. In my store we terminate partners for this behavior it is considered theft of tips. I have written to headquarters to handle this matter.

I worked on 2011 Christmas and didn't get a free shirt! what I did get was a crazy freak'n day with a bunch of rude customers. Non stop all day today and the customers didn't give a crap because their 12 drinks weren't ready for them in 5 minutes. Worked an 8 hour shift and only got a 6 minute break. Love customers leaving their f'n trash all over the floor

They send out the same memo every year around the holidays..under no circumstances are you allowed to accept monetary gifts..they need to go in with the tips.

@Swallowed It @javagirl666 I think there needs to be a clarification. As per the post time and date above, my comment was made on Xmas eve when I picked up my stocking from the store. Customers over the coarse of the week put cards in every employees stocking, how much each get is not for me to ask. Christmas day, every tip gets split between the ones that worked that day no matter if anyone is handed cash to could be considered to only that person. We as a Christmas team would never disrespect each other by putting it in our own pocket. Tips didn't hit the mark from the past but just as good all the same. We rocked the day and made 1825 beverages in 12 hours. Customers were happy, fun, thankful and all around good cheer. I will volunteer every year to work the holiday. I do wish I would remember next time to put an answering machine on the phone because it just rings all day.

For some reason, my store included the christmas eve and christmas day tips with the rest of the week's tips. When we baristas, who worked so hard on christmas day and eve (especially when we were super understaffed), asked why that was so, our managers said our store did not participate in the regular Xmas policy??? so EVERYONE in the store got more than average tips. You could imagine how frustrated and upset the ones who worked the holidays are, esp when the xmas tips were like $15/hr. Any commentaries how to handle this issue?

Were you told before Christmas that tips would be divided among the people who worked on the Holiday? Did the entire store understand that? If, redistribute the tips and complain to the DM. If not, there's really nothing you can do.

And just for the record, no stores in my district (and possibly the entire region) got T-Shirts, nor did anybody know anything about it.

It has been a few years since I was a barista, but, xmas tips in a very busy ($40k/wk) suburban DT were on the order of $5 / hr, and were divided only to employees who worked Christmas itself.

As a matter of fact, I had to cover for an injured barista, and after having already worked a closing shift on Chritmas Eve, had to go in and do the same damn thing on Christmas night.
My manager told me "I'll ask the DM if we can order an extra shirt for you."
Yeah right. So full of shit. I really could care less about a damned red t-shirt, at this point.

That is some tip, its the biggest incentive to work 'Money' for most, I guess it can effect how well they then treat customers and so the cycle continues, nice one.
