How are SBUX customers taking today's price increases?
The price of some Starbucks drinks went up today in the Northeast and Sunbelt regions. Any fallout? Or did customers shrug? (There's good news for Chicago-area Starbucks customers: their drink prices went down a bit because of a lower sales...

OPEN THREAD conversation-starter: Any idea what this SBUX customer's beef is?
This is from the comments section on another topic: I had a customer come in this evening to use a gift card because she "forgot to tell her brother she was boycotting Starbucks." I was attempting to inquire why, but...

Frappuccino gripe: "Why would Starbucks 'fix' something that's not broken?"
I don't get it...

I don't get why people troll, either.

I always have fun with customers! Sometimes I'll call drinks like I'm pretending to be Oprah a-la "Tom Cruise is HEREEEEEEEEEE!"
I've high fived customers, made them laugh 'til they cry, and if I can't pronounce their name I make a joke out of it. Great times!

The best is when you troll on your fellow partners through the drivethru...

Does anybody know if Tribute Blend is returning this year? Some answers have alluded to 'yes' but I haven't found anything definite anywhere.

@anger - I'd say it is returning. They said it wouldn't last year, but over the holidays SBUX sold a coffee of the month program that included tribute blend (that they call a transition into Spring)

I love it! I wish a customer would tell me that was their name.

I think half the population around these parts are trolls...

Years ago, back in the day, if they wouldnt give me their name, I would assign them a name. "Okay, sir, when they call out 'Antonio', that is your drink. Have a nice day!"

I had a customer come in this evening to use a gift card because she "forgot to tell her brother she was boycotting Starbucks." I was attempting to inquire why, but all she gave me was "our HR person on 60 minutes rubbed her the wrong way." I tried looking up some clips, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Anyone might have an idea or leads? My co-workers and I are kind of curious because of how strange she was acting.

Is there any standard regarding asking for names? Most of the Starbucks I go to do not ask, some ask my name, and a few ask "May I have a name for the cup?" which I thought was interesting...

I wouldn't put too much faith in anything said by a person who is boycotting Starbucks by shopping there.

@Judy
I want to say that it depends on how high frequency the store is and how much of an issue taking the incorrect drink is; I've never had to put names on the drinks at my store, but when filling at a nearby $35k/wk store, it is the norm.

My wife loves Starbucks. It's like I used to be with hockey cards. She has to collect the whole set. Read about it in our latest blog post.

One of my friends has her real name, and then her coffee cup name. I love it. It is an opportunity to have an alter-ego.

At our store, we typically ask for everyone's name. UNLESS their is no line. Just to break the ice (if they're new) BUT most of our customers are regular, so we usually have already written their name & drink on a cup by the time they reach the register.
Some drinks are specifically named after people. FOR EXAMPLE, If it's a decaf grande 5 pump, nonfat, no foam, extra hot, no whip mocha.... we just call it "the Lori."
But Omg. since we are surrounded by 5 different schools we get kids all the time that think they are f'ing hilarious. So we usually have cups marked for SpongeBob or Hannah Montanna.
*sigh*

someone at our store one morning told the person at the register to write "asshole" as their name on the cup....and the barista actually called it out...3 times...really loudly lol we've also answeredc the drive truh dings using different accents or imitating characters from things we've seen....or make animal noises in the background when the person is ordering. we've also hummed the mario theme song when they asked us to give them a minute lol
