It's a heck of a time to be a Starbucks barista!
So ... how are you holding up?
Not affiliated with Starbucks Corporation (obviously)
How well -- or poorly -- was this promotion communicated?
One SBUX barista rang me up for a tall drink coffee, and I had to tell her it was free. Another barista at a second store was about to charge me, then suddenly "recalled" it was free.

It will be well worth those working - hello, time and a half. Shame I have today off...

I'd be curious to know if customers that get free coffee are more generous (or less generous) with their tips. How's it shaping up for those who are working today?

I picked up a free AM and PM Pike and tipped each time. Probably would have only tipped once, otherwise.
BTW, employees were well aware of the promotion and stated that it was "on the house." Nice.

That's interesting. When we in Canada had our 25 cent tall Pike promotion a few weeks back, it was automatically rung in the till as 25 cents until 11am when the promo ended. I'm surprised that it isn't happening in the US similarly.

Tall brewed coffee was automatically discounted at all company Starbucks today using the Simphony POS. Licensed stores may have been different, since they use different computers.

Tip them for doing what they're already getting paid to do? I don't think so. It's not like they WALK to my table, ask me what I want, and CARRY it to my table.
